New WWE Commentary Teams Announced Ahead of Season Premieres

WWE Commentary Teams

WWE is going all in with their season premieres over the next week and that includes new commentary teams for RAW, SmackDown, and NXT as reported by Variety.

Things will kick off with the new teams tomorrow night on SmackDown where Michael Cole and Wade Barrett will be on commentary, Samantha Irvin will ring announce, and Kayla Braxton and Megan Morant as backstage interviewers.

Monday on RAW will see Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves on commentary with Mike Rome ring announcing, while Byron Saxton and the returning Cathy Kelley will serve as backstage interviewers.

Tuesday nights on NXT will see Vic Joseph and Booker T on commentary with Alicia Taylor ring announcing, and McKenzie Mitchell continuing as backstage interviewer.

For premium live events, Cole and Graves will be on commentary which feels like the right choice without having to switch back and forth between teams and the duo works well together. Seeing Wade Barrett move up to main roster commentary as well as Booker T back in the booth looks like a move by Triple H to get more in-ring veterans on commentary which is always welcome.

Jimmy Smith has been the lead RAW commentator in recent months but has announced that his run with WWE has ended. Kevin Patrick is getting a pretty big promotion as he’s been a backstage interviewer, and Cathy Kelley’s return seems like a case of the new regime bringing back a former talent that was let go during the 2020 purge, and she’s obviously a welcome return. It’s not yet clear whether Pat McAfee will re-join the SmackDown commentary when he returns from his time away or if he will end up on another brand.

Fresh beginnings have been the theme since Triple H took over WWE creative, and it should be interesting to see what else he has in store as all three brands kick off their season premieres beginning tomorrow night.
