Ric Flair Announces Return to the Ring for Final Match

Ric Flair Final Match

You read the headline right, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair is returning to the ring for “one final match” on July 31 under the Jim Crocket Promotions banner.

So far the only details available is that the event will be held in Nashville at the Fairgrounds, and will take place one day after SummerSlam is held at the City’s Nissan Stadium. Given that Conrad Thompson’s “Starrcast” fan convention is also returning that weekend, we feel Conrad may also have a hand in this JCP event.

There are going to be a LOT of opinions on Ric Flair returning to the ring at 73 years old, but he’s not the first to wrestler at such an age, and like it or not, people are going to watch this. The recent videos of Flair training with Jay Lethal sparked the rumors, and now we have confirmation on what the videos were really about.

Since Lethal is familiar with Flair and his signature spots, I’d have to guess that Lethal is a candidate for Flair’s opponent on July 31st, but that has yet to be confirmed. So what other possibilities are out there? A tag match? Flair vs. a legendary rival like Ricky Steamboat or Sting?

Then the other big question – while this is being promoted as Flair’s “last match” (again,) will this only give him the itch to step in the ring a few more times? Flair wrestling in various parts of the country and even Japan still undoubtedly would garner interest. The other huge question is Flair’s health. Just a few years back, Ric was literally in a coma and it was very uncertain if he would even come out of it. Stepping in the ring at all is a risk for The Nature Boy, so July 31st does have a chance of being his last dance.

It should be interesting to see how this unfolds, and what the rest of the card will look like as this is the first Jim Crocket Promotions event since the 90s; maybe it could lead to Flair still being involved in a promotion that could still provide some cool and historic moments. As of now, the eyes of Ric Flair fans worldwide will be on Nashville on July 31.
