Legendary Manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan Passes Away

Bobby Heenan Died

The wrestling world has lost not only a legendary figure, but arguably the greatest wrestling manager of all time in Bobby "The Brain" Heenan who has passed away at the age of 73.

For anyone that was a wrestling fan in the 80s or 90s, you definitely know how big of a role Bobby Heenan played in numerous historic events and eras over the years. While Heenan began his career in the late 60s and was an established regional star by the 70s, Heenan became a household name in the 80s when he made the jump to WWE (then WWF) in 1984. Heenan immediately began a rivalry with Hulk Hogan by managing memorable Hogan opponents like Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, Paul Orndorff, and of course Andre the Giant. Referring to "The Brain" as "The Weasel" was a staple if you were a fan in that era.

Post-WrestleMania RAW Roundup: Kurt Angle New RAW GM, Finn Balor Returns, Hardys No Longer "Broken"

The biggest RAW episode of the year is in the books and of course there were major stories coming out of it as per every year, so I'm going to touch on the three biggest happenings from last night's RAW.

Kurt Angle WWE Return

Kurt Angle Named New RAW General Manager
Anyone that watched the broadcast of the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony this year likely felt that they didn't realize just how much WWE missed Kurt Angle until his speech; the entertainment, the legitimate accolades, the presence alone - Kurt Angle needed to be back in WWE and not for just one night, and now he is.

It didn't take long for WWE to get Kurt Angle back in the mix as he was named new RAW GM, replacing Mick Foley who was "fired" last week and will be out recovering from hip surgery for the foreseeable future. Angle is obviously a great choice as he is a character that hasn't' been seen on WWE TV in years and can now interact with a whole new era of talent, as was already seen during RAW last night. Will it lead to a return to the ring for Kurt? Time (and WWE doctors) will tell.

The 30th Anniversary of WrestleMania 3 - The Greatest of All Time

WrestleMania 3 Hulk Andre

I didn't even realize before seeing all the mentions on the Pro Wrestling Roundup Twitter this morning that today marks the 30th anniversary of arguably the most iconic WrestleMania event ever - WrestleMania 3. If you lived through that era, especially if you were a kid like me, you got to experience the magic in wrestling that will probably never be captured again.

If a current fan that didn't live through the 80s as a wrestling fan but went back and watched WrestleMania 3, they may not even think it was that great; it wasn't based on the best in-ring wrestling (although Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage will always be viewed as one of the greatest of all time) but the majority of the show was built on something that you don't find much of today - raw emotion.

Triple H on WWE Trainers, John Cena Meets a Young Fan, Broken Hardys Delete Impact Wrestling?

Pro Wrestling News Roundup

These are the top wrestling stories on social media in the past 24 hours. As always, Pro Wrestling Roundup brings you the latest WWE news and pro wrestling rumors every day.

Even if you aren't a big fan of Cena, you'll be moved by this video of him meeting a young fan who uses wrestling as motivation. Via Andrew Gould of Bleacher Report. Read some more background from his article here.

2. WWE star Triple H recently spoke with ESPN and has the highlights here. You'll want to read this if you are wondering what the WWE trainers thought of Enzo Amore. Also, Triple H talks about the difficulty of wrestling after a long layoff and trying to be a part-timer.

3. Matt And Jeff Hardy Reincarnate The TNA Tag Team Titles, Threaten To Delete Impact Wrestling

We posted about some of the changes at TNA, including the Hardys leaving TNA, back on March 1. Well, that was hardly the end of that story. Matt and Jeff Hardy have been battling with Impact Wrestling over the rights to the "Broken Universe." Also, the Hardys managed to take the TNA World Tag Team Title belts with them. Breaking News: Jim Ross' Wife Passes Away After Tragic Accident

Jim Ross Wife Death

Sad news to report today as Jim Ross' wife Jan has passed away after a tragic auto accident on Monday. TMZ reported on the accident and gave the news that Jan was on life support after JR had posted online that a miracle was needed after she had suffered multiple skull fractures in the accident.

Jan Ross had been with JR since his days in WCW and throughout his legendary run in WWE. Ross has been posting updates on his website and thanking the wrestling community for the ongoing support.  JR referred to Jan in recent postings as "his angel," but anyone that has heard JR talk about his wife over the years knows that is the same term he has always used to describe her. Sadly, JR's latest update let everyone know that Jan had received last rites and his angel was gone.

Our thoughts are with Jim Ross during this unexpected tragedy.

Breaking News: Explicit Videos and Photos of Paige Leak Online

WWE Paige Leaked Content

It's been a crazy year for WWE Superstar Paige, and depending on whose opinion you listen to, that could be a good or a bad thing.  Paige came in to WWE and was an immediate star as she defeated Divas Champion AJ Lee for the title on her first night with the main roster.  Prior to that, she had a highly successful run in NXT and even before starting there she was already a veteran in the wrestling business being she started in her teenage years.

Paige was really the first female that initiated the current "Divas Revolution" that has seen stars like Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and others rise to prominence, which make it a shame that she's been out of the picture in WWE for the past few months for various reasons.

WWE News: Swagger Released, Undertaker vs. Reigns Made Official

Swagger WWE Release

Today's news roundup features a couple of headlines that most of us knew were probably coming; Jack Swagger openly requested his release from WWE a few weeks ago so the writing was pretty much on the wall for him, and WWE made it official today as Swagger has officially been "future endeavored."

Swagger has been floundering badly in WWE for the past few years with no real direction after his "We The People" run with Zeb Colter. Even before that run, we included Swagger in our list of 5 wrestlers WWE should send to Japan since obviously he had talent, but just wasn't doing anything meaningful in WWE.  Swagger could still be a guy that could go other places (like Japan, Mexico etc.) and reinvent himself; the fact that Dutch Mantel (aka Zeb Colter) is now part of the Impact Wrestling creative team could also make it quite likely that we will see Swagger pop up on Impact in the next few months.

WWE News: Rick Rude Finally Being Inducted Into the Hall of Fame

Rick Rude WWE Hall of Fame

WWE is justifying another long overdue Hall of Fame induction this year as "Ravishing" Rick Rude is the latest inductee into the 2017 class.  When I say long overdue, one of the reasons is that Rude's name comes up almost any time a legendary figure is asked who should be in the WWE Hall of Fame but isn't yet; finally, this year the Hall becomes "Simply Ravishing."

Rick Rude (real name Richard Rood, always cool to know he used a variation of his real name) was regarded as one of the toughest men in wrestling behind the scenes, regardless of his cocky heel persona that he played to perfection.  I first saw Rude in the Von Erich's World Class Championship Wrestling where Rude was the promotion's first World Heavyweight Champion after they withdrew from the NWA in 1986.

TNA News: The Hardys and Others Gone, Jarrett and Others Back

Broken Hardys Leave TNA
It's been a very long time since I've written anything about TNA since frankly, the show has been unwatchable for the most part in my opinion.  The few times I did watch, it was to see the reinvented Hardys and their "broken brilliance" so to speak, which has been so over the top that it created some "must see TV" moments.  As of now, the Hardys and other top talents have left the company and the entire landscape of the promotion is changing due to the takeover of the new (old) management, namely Jeff Jarrett.

TNA has been through some crazy ups and downs over the years; I watched the first PPV broadcast in 2002 and felt it could truly be an alternative to WWE since the major stars that weren't in WWE were showing up in TNA.  The company seemed to go back and forth over the years on whether they were pushing new talent or bringing in legends.  When Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff arrived in TNA, it seemed like they were going to push things to the next level by going head to head with RAW and bringing back a bit of the old Nitro vibe - that didn't last too long, whether it be a clash of egos or lack of budget, the level of WCW couldn't be created without a Ted Turner checkbook.

WWE News: Beth Phoenix to Be Inducted Into the Hall of Fame

WWE continues their weekly announcements for the 2017 Hall of Fame class, and former Women's and Divas Champion Beth Phoenix is getting the call this year.

I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like this induction feels a bit rushed, as it feels like Beth Phoenix just retired form in-ring action, and wasn't in WWE all that long.  Phoenix was a great talent, but she seemed to come along in a period when the women (or "Divas" at the time) weren't exactly given much spotlight and didn't get a lot of time on TV; Beth was a standout talent at the time and there were hopes that she would get some better talent to work with at the time.

WWE News: Diamond Dallas Page to Be Inducted Into the 2017 Hall of Fame

DDP WWE Hall of Fame

The 2017 WWE Hall of Fame class just gained yet another deserving member as Diamond Dallas Page is this week's inductee announcement.  Page deserves this induction if for nothing else, his job of literally saving the lives of wrestlers like Jake Roberts and Scott Hall in recent years, but he just so happens to have a hall of fame worthy in-ring career as well.

I first saw Diamond Dallas Page in the 80s as a manager in the AWA; he was loud, he was colorful, he seemed great in his role as manager of tag champions "Badd Company."  Page's managerial talents were seemingly verified when he debuted as the new manager of the Fabulous Freebirds in WCW in the early 90s, but his transition to becoming a wrestler at the age of 35 seemed like  a major step backwards to me at the time.

Pro Wrestling Legend "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff Passes Away

After losing legendary figures like Chavo Guerrero Sr. and George "The Animal" Steele, this rough week of losing wrestling legends continues as today we have lost former WWWF Champion "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff at the age of 74.

If you became a wrestling fan in the 80s like I did, you probably saw Ivan Koloff in the NWA as the older veteran/mentor figure to younger "Russian" wrestlers like Nikita Koloff and Krusher Kruschev; but if you were an older fan or enjoyed looking back at wrestling history, you knew Ivan Koloff was already a huge star prior to that time.

WWE Hall of Famer George "The Animal" Steele Passes Away

George "The Animal" Steele Death

2017 is already turning out to be a bad year when it comes to losing wrestling legends as we have now lost a true icon in George "The Animal" Steele at the age of 79.

The sight of George Steele's green tongue and "eating" wrestling ring turnbuckles was iconic in the "Rock n Wrestling Era" and George fit right into that new era even though he had already had a long and storied career by that time. George was a huge star in the 60s and 70s as a wildman bad guy that regularly challenged for the then WWWF Championship against the likes of Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, and Bob Backlund.

Theodore Long Set to Be Inducted Into the WWE Hall of Fame

WWE Hall of Famer Theodore Long
The 2017 WWE Hall of Fame class is shaping up to be a highly deserving group, as legendary figure Theodore Long is the latest inductee to be announced.  Teddy Long's name has been synonymous with being probably the most memorable SmackDown General Manager ever, but his career has spanned across many decades and many different roles.

I personally remember seeing Teddy Long as a referee for the NWA back in the 80s; little did I think that 30 years later I would be writing about Long's career as not only a referee for both NWA and WWE, but also a memorable ringside manager as well as a general manager that was involved in numerous memorable moments.

Chavo Guerrero Sr. Passes Away

Chavo Guerrero Passes Away
The Guerrero family suffered another loss today as Chavo Guerrero Sr. (aka Chavo Classic in WWE) passed away at the age of 68.  Chavo was the older brother of Eddie Guerrero, father to Chavo Jr., and the oldest of the highly successful wrestling brothers.

While Chavo Sr. was a major star in territories around the country, many modern fans will remember him from his time on WWE TV as "Chavo Classic" in 2004.  During that time, Chavo managed his son Chavo Jr. but also ended up back in the ring - eventually winning and becoming the oldest WWE Cruiserweight Champion in history.

The Rock "n" Roll Express Set to Be Inducted Into the WWE Hall of Fame

WWE Hall of Fame Rock n Roll Express
One of the most overdue inductions into the WWE Hall of Fame will be remedied this year as WWE has announced that the legendary Rock "n" Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) will join Kurt Angle in the 2017 class.

If you were a wrestling fan in the 80s, you undoubtedly knew the popularity of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson; from multiple title reigns to wild female fans, the Rock n Roll Express were huge stars especially in the NWA. Their feuds with the Russians, Four Horsemen, and of course The Midnight Express are bits of history that could never be recreated.

Rumored WrestleMania 33 Matches

WrestleMania 33 Card

With WrestleMania 33 in Orlando being less than two months away, the speculation on the card is at an all-time high since most of the matches aren't exactly clear right now (not to mention an injury may cause a change to one of the biggest matches on the card.)

Today we're taking a look at the current card that is rumored for WrestleMania and how we might get there from where things stand in WWE right now:

Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship - Wait, what? Neither m an is the Universal Champion and it seems odd for one of them to get it at this point, but rumor is that Goldberg will challenge champion Kevin Owens at the Fastlane PPV and go into Mania as champ.  Lesnar finally getting his win back seems to be a lock, but where would he go from there as Universal Champion?

Samoa Joe Makes His WWE Debut on RAW

Samoa Joe WWE Debut

WWE fans who were hoping for an impactful debut by Samoa Joe at the Royal Rumble may have been disappointed, but they got their reprieve last night as Joe did indeed make his main roster debut on RAW and did so in a big way.

For all the fans that hoped Joe would come out at number 30 in the Rumble and then were completely deflated when number 30 turned out to be Roman Reigns, keep in mind that Joe probably wouldn't have gone on to win the Rumble, and thus his debut would have had much less impact than the way he debuted on RAW.

Royal Rumble 2017 Results - Randy Orton is Going to WrestleMania 33

Royal Rumble Randy Orton

The 30th edition of WWE's Royal Rumble made it seem like WWE was out to do a couple of things - 1. confuse fans to the point that they couldn't hardly predict any matches for WrestleMania 33, and 2. piss fans off (or at least tease them to some degree.)

Going into the event, this year's Rumble seemed to be like the most stacked in years being it featured another Goldberg return which lead to Brock Lesnar's entry into the match as well.  Then we had The Undertaker's surprise entry into the match just a few weeks ago, then add in other rumored favorites to win like Braun Strowman or Chris Jericho and we had probably the most unpredictable Rumble in years on our hands - and of course WWE swerved everyone and left us trying to figure out what exactly the WrestleMania 33 card will look like.

Kurt Angle Set to be Inducted Into the WWE Hall of Fame

Kurt Angle Returns to WWE

The years of speculation are over - WWE has confirmed that Kurt Angle will return and be inducted into the company's Hall of Fame at this year's ceremony.

Every since Kurt Angle left WWE in 2006 and subsequently had a lengthy run in TNA, it seems like the question about Angle returning has never really gone away.  While Kurt had some great matches in TNA and helped bring major notoriety to the company during its better periods, it seemed like Kurt's home would always truly be WWE since that's where he rose to become a main event star.

WWE Hall of Famer "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka Has Passed Away

Jimmy Snuka Passes Away

Pro Wrestling has lost one of it's greatest stars ever as WWE Hall of Famer "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka has passed away at the age of 73. Snuka had apparently been battling stomach cancer, but amazing still wrestled at recently at 2014. His daughter, current WWE Superstar Tamina, appeared to be by his side at the end.

Jimmy Snuka is most well known for his run in the early-mid 1980s as he was considered the biggest star in WWE (then WWF) especially right before Hulk Hogan began his historical run in 1984.  Snuka had actually been wrestling since the late 60s and was a star in pro wrestling around the world.

"The Superfly" created numerous memorable moments that will never be forgotten, maybe none more than his infamous "Superfly Splash" from the top of a steel cage on to Intercontinental Champion Don Muraco in 1983 in Madison Square Garden.
