R.I.P. Pro Wrestling Legend Nick Bockwinkel

The wrestling world has lost another legendary figure as WWE Hall of Famer and multi-time AWA Champion Nick Bockwinkel has passed away at the age of 80.

Bockwinkel spent the majority of his career in Verne Gagne's AWA, but became well known worldwide as he came from an era when champions of the major promotions travelled across the globe.  Bockwinkel was known for being from an era where many champions carried themselves with an aura of class with a touch of cockiness, something Nick did better than most which made him a great bad guy champion in the AWA for many years.

While Bockwinkel actually defeated AWA owner Verne Gagne to win his first AWA Title in the 70s, perhaps his most famed time as champion was when he was repeatedly challenged by Hulk Hogan in the early 80s.  Fans were infuriated that Nick would somehow escape losing the title to Hogan in all of their title matches via one loophole or another - a fact that eventually sent Hogan to the WWF for his famous run as their champion.  Nick's last run as AWA Champion was in 1987 which ended when he lost the title to Curt Hennig and proceeded to retire from the ring.

Breaking News: Seth Rollins Injured; Stripped of WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins Injured

In what has to be considered one of the biggest shakeups seen in WWE in recent years, it has been announced the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury on the overseas tour that will put him out of action for 6-9 months.  Due to the circumstances, WWE has announced that Rollins has been stripped of the championship and a tournament will be held at Survivor Series to crown a new champion.

The timing of course couldn't be for Rollins as he's been pushed as WWE's top guy for months now and undoubtedly would've had a big role at WrestleMania 32.  Rollins was set to take on Roman Reigns at Survivor Series and the outcome would've probably made it clear as to what the title picture would look like going into WrestleMania season.

Seth Rollins' Controversial Girlfriend Released by WWE

Earlier this yea, WWE Champion Seth Rollins was involved in the middle of a controversial situation that exposed him in more ways than one; his Twitter account was hacked, and nude pics of NXT Diva Zahra Schreiber appeared on the account - the problem was that Rollins was engaged and apparently these pics revealed the fact that Rollins was seeing Schreiber on the side - nude pics of Rollins soon popped up on the Internet as well after this situation came to light.

The whole thing blew over pretty fast, and Rollins of course went on to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, and even Schreiber was kept on as an NXT talent...and she was suddenly seen in public with Rollins as his girlfriend (guess that previous engagement went down the tubes quick.)  Zahra did some ring announcing work and even debuted as a talent in the past couple of weeks as she debuted as the "sister" of Solomon Crowe.

Video: The Final Piper's Pit

The wrestling world remains in a state of shock after the passing of the legendary "Rowdy" Roddy Piper last week, but at the same time many celebrations of the Hot Rod's life and the many memories he gave us are being shared.  Today we have what has already become a historic piece of footage as Maryland Championship Wrestling has released video of the final edition of "Piper's Pit," filmed just 13 days prior to Piper's death.

Breaking News: Roddy Piper Passes Away

The wrestling world hasn't even had enough time to recover from the death of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, yet now TMZ is reporting that Roddy Piper passed away at the age of 61 from cardiac arrest.

This is a complete shock as Piper has been in the public eye a lot in the past week, talking about the Hulk Hogan controversy to various sources.  Piper battled cancer years ago and won, and still appeared fairly often on WWE programming hosting Piper's Pit and making other various appearances across the country.

Piper is also well known in Hollywood for the cult classic "They Live" and various other movies that he was still doing often in the past few years, so the impact of his passing reaches far beyond the wrestling world.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Makes WWE Games Debut as The Terminator in WWE 2K16

It seems to have become a tradition for the yearly WWE game to feature a spectacular return or debut that is a major selling point for that year's game; last year it was Sting's first ever appearance in a WWE game, a few year's earlier it was Brock Lesnar's first WWE appearance in many years, this year 2K is once again going big with a major headline superstar but for the first time it will be one from outside the wrestling world.

WWE Hall of Famer Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator will be a playable character in WWE 2K16 and his costumes from both Terminator 1 and 2 will be featured.  This is quite a crossover and will probably bring outside appeal from gamers that normally aren't into wrestling games.  It seems like Schwarzenegger being features as part of Triple H's entrance at WrestleMania was a huge crossover in itself, but this will be even bigger given the fact it will allow players to live out a fantasy scenario where the Terminator does battle with WWE Superstars.

Hulk Hogan Racist Tapes, Removal from WWE- Reactions from SI, USA Today, Bleacher Report, Rolling Stone, People, TMZ

Hulk Hogan is the biggest story today and will likely be the biggest story in Pro Wrestling for quite some time. This story transcends wrestling and has taken over mainstream media. For example, when I checked which Hulk Hogan stories were the biggest on social media, all of them were from mainstream media or non-wrestling blogs.

As we posted earlier, WWE Fired Hulk Hogan for racist recordings that surfaced, allegedly of the Hulkster using the "N word" while discussing a black man his daughter was dating.

There are so many stories and reactions about the latest Hulk Hogan scandal.

Since this will obviously be the biggest wrestling story today, we will use today's Pro Wrestling Roundup post to share reactions from media, as well as wrestling blogs and web sites. We are going to post the very top stories right not, but you can expect us to add links as more reactions come in.

Breaking News: Hulk Hogan Apparently Gone from WWE Due to Alleged Racist Recordings

Controversy has seemed to be follow Hulk Hogan more than ever in the latter years of his career and now another situation looks to be striking the Hulkster down again just when he was gaining some ground. It's been around three years since the Hogan sex tape controversy became an Internet spectacle, but this situation will probably be much worse since it portrays Hulk as a racist instead of a victim.

Last night rumors began to swirl that there was some sort of issue that caused WWE to remove all Hulk Hogan mentions and merchandise from their site and that it was due to some alleged recordings that featured Hulk on a racially charged tirade.  Now this morning both RadarOnline.com and NationalEnquirer.com are reporting that they've heard the tape, and it features Hulk having a conversation a few years ago with Heather Clem (the same female involved in the sex tape controversy) where the "N" word is used excessively as Hulk describes his daughter Brooke's relationship with a black man.

WWE Battleground 2015 Results - The Undertaker Returns!

WWE Battleground has set the stage for this year's SummerSlam and has done show in shocking fashion. Leading into the show there were rumors swirling about The Undertaker making a surprise return to WWE, but actually seeing it happen and the response that followed really created a buzz and opened the door for a ton of speculation.  Before we cover that, let's look at the full results from the card:

Preshow:

King Barrett defeated R-Truth

Has anyone really followed what these two have been doing the past few weeks?  Battle of the kings....on the preshow, OK.  Barrett wins and R-Truth's comedy king act may be over, I can't say anyone cares, they just can't get anything to work for Barrett.

The NXT Divas Invade RAW and Start a Revolution

NXT Divas

Last night seemed to be the culmination of the "Give Divas a Chance" movement that began months ago when fans complained loudly about the fact that the WWE Divas were continuously given approximately 2 minutes of a 3 hours show each week on RAW.  The fact of the matter is, a lot of these feelings came to be because over in NXT, the Divas were putting on matches that were stealing the show with lengthy competitive matches that had plenty of build up and really meant something.  Eventually the question became not only "why don't the main roster Divas get this opportunity?" but also "why aren't the NXT Divas on the main roster?!"

When Paige made her main roster debut after WrestleMania 30, it seemed like a change was in store for the Divas, but it's been a year and a half and we are just now getting that expected change as three of the top NXT Divas have now joined Paige on the main roster, and they did so in spectacular fashion.

Movie Review: "The Old Boys" Wrestling Documentary

It's been quite a while since we've seen a feature length wrestling documentary that delivers some really unique content that hasn't been seen and told before, but the new documentary 'The Old Boys" delivers just that.  We've all seen shoot interviews, convention Q and A's, and of course archive footage from the classic days of wrestling, but this documentary is unique in that it delivers a little bit of all these things.

The Old Boys provides an ongoing discussion about the wrestling business with legends like Roddy Piper, Demolition, Terry Funk, Scott Hall, The Dynamite Kid, and Jake Roberts, guys we've heard from less over the years like Paul Roma and Jim Powers who were once "The Young Stallions" in WWE, more recent stars like Road Dogg and Hardcore Holly as we get to see them interact with the newer crop of talent on the independent scene, and of course ever-controversial figures like The Iron Sheik and The Honky Tonk Man who never hold back when it comes to having something interesting to say.

WWE "Beast in the East" Results - New NXT Champion Crowned!

If you were up at 5 AM (ET) this morning, you got to witness a truly unique WWE live event emanating from Tokyo, Japan (if not, it is of course now on demand on the WWE Network.) "Beast in the East" delivered a unique card that most fans of pure wrestling and the traditional Japanese style of wrestling surely appreciated.  There were no in-ring promos, no run-ins, and every match ended in a pinfall; yes, Beast from the East gave us.....wrestling.

Looking at the card prior to the show, it was pretty evident which matches would be something special, and things pretty much played out as so.  Chris Jericho vs. Neville was a great match for the generations that you wouldn't see anywhere else, Brock Lesnar's utter destruction of Kofi Kingston was as brutal as most expected, and Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens was a classic on so many levels and was the true main event of the show.  Check out the results of the live broadcast below:

Remember When..."Stone Cold" Steve Austin Won the King of the Ring in 1996?

It's hard to believe that what would become the most memorable moment in WWE King of the Ring history happened 19 years ago this year.  It was 1996, a great year for wrestling overall but not necessarily WWE at this point; business seemed to be down for the company as WCW just lit a fire with Hulk Hogan's legendary turn and the formation of the nWo, ECW was revolutionizing the business with their edgy presentation, all while WWE was sort of floundering without a whole lot of direction; little did anyone know that Steve Austin (who was pretty much a mid-carder up until this point) would begin a path on this night to becoming arguably the biggest star in WWE history.

Jeff Jarrett Returns to TNA Wrestling

Jeff and Karen Jarrett return to TNA

In one of the most peculiar situations to take place in wrestling in quite some time, Jeff Jarrett made a shocking return to TNA last night on Impact.  Why is it so shocking?  Maybe it's the fact that Jarrett left the company to start his own Global Force Wrestling promotion that recently launched, maybe more so because Jarret walked out in a GFW T-Shirt and put his company over many times on Impact, or maybe just shocking that TNA allowed any of this at all.

R.I.P. "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel

On the heels of the much publicized passing of Dusty Rhodes, wrestling has lost another name from the 80s and 90s in "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel who has passed away at the age of 53.

Landel (real name William Ansor) made a name for himself mainly in the Memphis and NWA areas, where he wasn't the only bleached blonde "Nature Boy;" in fact, Landel had numerous matches with Ric Flair in the 80s and early 90s that were dubbed the "Battle of the Nature Boys." Landel was actually managed by famed Horseman manager J.J. Dillon against Flair before Dillon ended up by Flair's side for the majority of Flair's famed NWA run.

R.I.P. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes

Rest in Peace Dusty RhodesPro wrestling lost one of its most iconic figures in history this morning as "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes passed away at the age of 69.

Dusty Rhodes (real name Virgil Runnels) was one of the biggest stars throughout multiple generations in wrestling, and an influential force in numerous ways as well.  From being the man behind the scenes during the NWA's explosive era in the 80s right up to being a major influence to probably the entire NXT roster, Dusty Rhodes' influence will be etched into the history of wrestling forever.

Dusty Rhodes' career spanned many generations, with some fans probably not realizing that he was a "bad guy" early on and was part of the legendary "Texas Outlaws" tag team with partner Dick Murdoch in the 60s.  It was in the 70s that the "American Dream" was born as Dusty first became one of the most popular stars in wrestling in the Florida area and it was also during this era that Dusty first wrestled for WWE (then WWWF) in Madison Square Garden, drawing record setting crowds against WWWF Champion "Superstar" Billy Graham.

5 Reasons NXT Remains Better Than the Main WWE Product

Now that it's been almost a year since the first NXT special aired on the WWE Network, it's safe to make a statement on the quality of the product since it can't be claimed there's some sort of "bandwagon" effect over one show.  NXT has gained a definite cult following over the past year and the rabid live crowds are evident of that on every show; the fans are invested in the characters and that was evident this past week as we saw many of the emotional fan reactions during NXT Takeover: Rival.

Seth Rollins Rocked by Nude Photo Scandal Involving NXT Diva

Seth Rollins ScandalIt's been an interesting 24 hours to say the least for WWE Superstar Seth Rollins; as RAW went on the air last night, Seth Rollins' Twitter account was apparently hacked and nude photos of NXT developmental Diva Zahra Schreiber were posted on it. Following that disaster, things got even worse as Rollins' fianceé saw the photos and proceeded to post nude photos of Rollins himself.

What will this all mean for Rollins current spot at the top of the WWE roster? WWE does try to push the whole family friendly/TV-PG stuff, but this will probably not affect is current status being his account was hacked. This may cause a stir obviously in Rollins' personal life since his fiancée was obviously none too happy about these pics being posted, but we'll probably never know the back story on where they came from or if Rollins had any connection to Shreiber. Rollins' fianceé's Twitter account has since been deleted, so take that for what it's worth; meanwhile Rollins posted an apology to fans and his family for the leak.
