WWE SummerSlam 2014 Results

Brock Lesnar SummerSlam 2014In what many are calling the best SummerSlam event in many years, the 2014 edition delivered some quality in-ring action and the continuation of many stories we've seen built over the past few months.  Of course the main event of John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar delivered but maybe not in the way many expected, and the match with maybe the most build which was Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella took a turn that will undoubtedly see that feud/story continue on.  Let's jump right in to the results:

Pre-show:

Rob Van Dam defeated Cesaro

My how the mighty have fallen; just a few months ago Cesaro was a part of one of the spotlight moments at WrestleMania 30 when he hoisted The Big Show up and over the top rope and won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and now he's losing pre-show matches.  Of course Rob Van Dam is no slouch to lose to, and they're most likely just holding Cesaro off until the right time to put him back in the spotlight, but still he has lost a huge amount of momentum lately.

Alberto Del Rio Released by WWE

Alberto Del Rio Released WWE made a fairly big move this week by releasing Alberto Del Rio; the move wasn't without some controversy as it was related to an incident that apparently occurred backstage that involved Del Rio slapping a member of the WWE.com staff.  No concrete details are available, but WWE has moved quickly in parting ways with the former WWE Champion Del Rio.

Alberto debuted in WWE in 2010 with a big buildup that almost immediately threw him into the main event picture.  His promo videos built him up as a rich snob that looked down on everyone else, which made him an easy to hate character right off the bat.  Though many may have not realized, Del Rio was no rookie at the time; the son of Mexican wrestling legend Dos Caras and the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Mil Mascaras, Del Rio had an established history in both pro wrestling as well as MMA.
